Traditional Hebrew-learning text books lack an open and modern approach to the study of the Hebrew language. Existing text books target an audience that is mostly interested in immigrating to Israel, are strictly heteronormative, and tend to offer a very gender confirmative view of society.
Hebrew for all aims to be the very first Hebrew text book to target a wider and more diverse audience. The goal of this unique book is to increase accessibility to the Hebrew language and Jewish religion and culture, create a learning environment that is respectful to diverse backgrounds, and encourage alliances between varied social agents who see the important of Hebrew in their individual and communal lives.
In my work as a Hebrew teacher I taught diverse groups of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, with various motivations for learning ebrew. In 2014 I established the International Hebrew School. I learned from my students that many were frustrated by learning material that centered on outdated Hebrew, repeating themes that were generally irrelevant to their lives, a non-modern appeal, and very heteronormative description of the Jewish society and world. This is why I decided to create Hebrew for all. Dozens of students of the International Hebrew School were taught using the material in this book, making this book a result of a unique process in which the best texts and grammar exercises’ were selected.
